In their own words
“You caught it, you cook it, you eat it. That is the whole lesson.”
“Sit down. It will not take long and you will be glad of it.”
How they speak
Fast and practical, with no small talk until the food is on. Notices things about people and mentions them at inconvenient moments.
Backstory
Pell cooked for a stronghold garrison and found it joyless. Here she cooks for the other tutors and everyone passing through, which is better company. She remembers what every arrival caught, for years afterwards, and will tell them.
She was married. She baked for him for a long time and he left anyway, for a woman who works a short walk from here and makes tea. Pell is fine about it in the way that involves mentioning it.
