Broodmother

A massive pale spider queen that has claimed the deepest cavern as her nursery.

She fills the cavern. Eight legs, each thick as a tree trunk and pale as bone, span from wall to wall. Her abdomen pulses with grotesque rhythmic contractions — egg sacs forming, swelling, and dropping in an endless cycle of production. Hundreds of glassy eyes catch the torchlight like a chandelier of malice. The Broodmother has been breeding in the dark for centuries, her children hollowing out tunnel after tunnel, cavern after cavern. She is not merely a creature in the cave. She IS the cave. The silk-wrapped husks that line the walls tell you what happens to those who come too close to the nursery. The tiny spiders already crawling toward your boots tell you that you are already too close.
